Being You

There is so much more to Life than you have allowed yourself to experience so far. There is breathtaking beauty. There is Peace that is life-changing. There is wholeness beyond your current comprehension. There are all the forms of Love present right where you are, right now. You don’t have to travel across the globe or even go outside to experience this fullness.
You push yourself based on the expectations of others to do a job and have a life that is respectable or acceptable in the eyes of others. And when you dare to venture outside of that mold you doubt yourself and your path. And you beat yourself up for being different. You know - we all know - in our heart of hearts, there is more to life than 9-5, TV, booze, reels, and microwaved dinners.
You have tried to make it okay. But something inside you wants more.
So you take a vacation and it’s great for a week while you are there. Then you return home thinking you are renewed and refreshed and in no time you are questioning your purpose and your existence again. It’s not just you. The world is full of unhappy people living unhappy lives.
And there are so many others living their dreams and their genius. People who are actually living, not just going through the motions to pay taxes and feed their children. And since they are able to do this, there is hope for you.
The discomfort you are feeling is a gift. Be present with it. Welcome it as a friend. You know it so very well, you may as well call it friend. Thank it and ask it what it has to share with you. Accept the gift non-judgmentally, no matter how large or small. Listen and hear all it has to tell you. When there is no perceivable message, let that be okay. Thank it for sharing with you later, perhaps in a dream, a conversation, or a sudden “aha” moment.
How do you listen and take time for all these messages? It seems like a lot of work and it could quickly become overwhelming. Be as present as you can in your days. When you decide to make time to listen, make time. When you feel like you have too much going on in the moment, make a mental note or set a reminder to spend some time with it later.
Once this becomes a practice, it won’t take as long or require as much effort. You will be able to meet these messengers and receive your present in a matter of seconds in your head while you are typing or sitting in a meeting.
Allow yourself to truly let go of the angst. Acknowledge the feeling and reach behind it for the true cause. It may be that you feel unworthy of taking time for yourself or you think you should be doing something more productive with your time, such as doing something that pays the bills and puts shoes on your feet.
There is time for that. This is your time. Your dedicated time for you. It is sacred and holy because you are, as is your becoming. Sometimes growth is uncomfortable. Sometimes it is thrilling. Most of the time, spending time with yourself for yourself is unnerving. And worth it.
When you lean in to being worthy of this time and space and appreciate the words and wisdom and love that is - which you have allowed - that is when there’s more to be had.
Give yourself credit for sitting and being present. Congratulate yourself. Give yourself a treat. Thank yourself for loving - or beginning to love - You!
